Description
Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Nursing degree may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree is designed to develop students' knowledge and skill in research and theory development, and involves a research project in a selected field of nursing. It is intended for registered nurses who wish to prepare themselves for higher degree studies and for leadership in nursing practice, research and education.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Demonstrated an understanding of the philosophical and ethical issues that underpin the knowledge base of the discipline of nursing.
- Appreciation of a broad range of research methodologies that may be used to investigate the discipline of nursing.
- The ability to conceive, plan and carry to completion a discrete piece of scholarly work relating to an area of nursing practice.
- Critically appraised nursing research in the delivery of health care to individuals, families, groups and communities.
- Demonstrated an openness to new ideas and unconventional critiques of received wisdom.
- Adapted knowledge to new situations.
- Collaborated with others in the pursuit of knowledge.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the discipline, appropriate professional knowledge and skills and high ethical standards.

Admission information
Admission requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area with a minimum GPA of 5.0:
In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.
Domestic applicants should apply by submitting the End-On Honours Application Form.
International applicants should apply by submitting the End-On Honours Application Form and the International Application Form.

1 year full-time or part-time equivalent up to 3 years maximum.
International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) is a one year full time or equivalent part-time program designed to develop students' knowledge and skills in research and theory development, and to assist them to undertake a research project in a selected field of nursing. Students are appointed a research supervisor. They meet with their supervisor fortnightly at the start of their program. Meetings with their supervisor will become less frequent as the program progresses. The program also includes one or two face-to-face courses depending on enrolment.

Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.

You usually apply for Honours in the final year of your undergraduate degree. To be accepted for entry you must have successfully completed a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent with a credit grade point average (GPA).
