Description
The program can be completed over one year of full-time study or part-time equivalent. Courses are offered on a semester basis, i.e. two semesters per year. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is offered at Callaghan and Ourimbah Campuses.
Please note that specialisations are not available at both campuses.
The specialisations of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, and Physics are available to students at the Callaghan campus.
The Marine Science and Sustainable Resource Management specialisations are available at the Ourimbah campus only.
The Psychology specialisation is available at both the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses.
The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) approved sequence in Psychology is no longer available in this program. If you have a 3 year APAC accredited psychology qualification please apply for the accredited Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) program.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- In-depth knowledge and ability appropriate to undertake further study and research in a field of science.
- The ability to develop, conduct and manage a research project.
- The ability to critically and independently reflect and analyse project results.
- The ability to communicate a convincing and reasoned scientific argument at a level and style appropriate to the audience and to report scientific findings in an oral and substantial written format.
- The ability to work on an advanced scientific activity both autonomously and collaboratively.
- An awareness of professional practice in the relevant discipline and an understanding, appreciation and respect for appropriate conduct and practice.

Admission information
Admission requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area within the last five years with a minimum GPA of 5.0:
- across all studies undertaken within the program; or
- across a major in the proposed area of study; or
- across 80 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists); or
- where the applicant has completed less than 80 units at 3000 level, a GPA of 5.5 calculated from at least 60 units of 3000 level courses (which includes at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists).
In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.

International applicants should apply by submitting the End-On Honours Application Form and the International Application Form.
English Language Requirements

International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. The Honours program is normally undertaken over one year of full-time study or two years part-time. Students are required to complete 80 units from one discipline sequence.

Transition arrangements
Photonics
Photonics was removed from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 2020. Students who wish to complete their honours in photonics will enrol in the Physics courses if they are admitted to the program.
Psychology
Students who commenced prior to 2021 and have not completed PSYC4100 must complete PSYC4300 instead. Students who commenced prior to 2021 and have not completed PSYC4201 must complete PSYC4200 instead.
Students who commenced honours in Psychology part time in 2014 will finish their honours under the program structure in which they enrolled in 2014. All students undertaking Psychology honours in 2015 will commence under the new program structure.
Students who apply for admission to Bachelor of Science (Honours) to undertake the specialisation in Psychology and who completed their Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology in 2012 or 2013 will be considered for admission to Bachelor of Science (Honours) if they have completed at least 90 units of Psychology courses including the following:
- PSYC1010 Psychology Introduction 1
- PSYC1020 Psychology Introduction 2
- STAT2000 Applied Statistics and Research Methods
- 20 units of 2000 level PSYC directed course
- PSYC3000 Advanced Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology
- 30 units of 3000 level PSYC directed courses

Honours
There are three classes of Honours: Class I, Class II and Class III. Class II will have two divisions, namely Division 1 and Division 2. The grading and marking of End On Honours programs is defined in the Bachelor Honours Policy (Policy 000990)
Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
Entry into the Honours program in Psychology is limited and competitive, so whilst an applicant may achieve the required GPA to apply, they may not necessarily receive an offer into the program.Note: Applicants who have completed an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited undergraduate sequence in Psychology at another institution and wish to undertake further studies in Psychology can consider the Graduate Diploma in Psychology http://gradschool.edu.au/programs/details/graduate-diploma-psychology-12363

You usually apply for Honours in the final year of your undergraduate degree. To be accepted for entry you must have successfully completed a Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a credit grade point average (GPA).
