Course overview
You will graduate with expertise in professional social science skills in analysis, policy and research.
Core courses provide you with the applied skills needed to understand real world problems and create practical solutions, including:
- Analysing contemporary social problems
- Ethical and professional practice
- Social research skills: applied qualitative and quantitative methods
- Policy and program development and evaluation
- Organisational management and social behaviour
- Social sciences placement: employability and experiential learning
In addition to core courses, you can choose from 11 major areas of study to diversify your learning and career pathways. You can also undertake elective courses outside the Bachelor of Social Science.
Student experience
Career-ready placements
You will gain practical social science skills in analysis and communication, policy, and research. You will complete a minimum 140-hour placement within the later stages of your studies. There will be a variety of opportunities available to acquire a placement in your desired career field. This includes local, state and commonwealth public service, non-government organisations, higher education, cultural and environmental organisations, and community and family services.

How to apply
Apply as a domestic student
You are a domestic student if you are:
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen (including dual citizens)
- A permanent resident of Australia
- A holder of a permanent Australian visa.
Applying as an international student
Entry requirements — Senior secondary school qualification
Admission to our undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools.
English proficiency requirements
Applicants who do not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy.

- About English Language Pathways
Apply to the University via our online application portal.
In the application portal, you can enter the program you wish to study and upload relevant documents needed as part of your application. It is recommended you submit your application a minimum of 12 weeks before your intended semester of trimester start date.
If you are applying through an education agent, they can also apply through the application portal. Ensure your agent is contracted to the University to avoid delays with your application.
Once you have started your application you will be provided with a reference number. You or your education agent will be able to track your application as it progresses.
