The Graduate Certificate in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education takes a multidisciplinary approach in upskilling and educating students. This program will allow you to examine a range of approaches to managing individual student emotional and behaviour needs including creating, monitoring and evaluating individual students and working with stakeholders in addressing academic and social needs. You’ll also explore how to implement a behaviour change program.
This program focuses on collaboration, consultation, negotiation, and interdisciplinary teams related to children and young people with disabilities, their families and allied health practitioners, while examining policy development and application, curriculum, and personalised learning.
It will prepare you to successfully meet the needs of children and young people with emotional and/or behavioural needs in education settings.

The Graduate Certificate in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education is a 40-unit postgraduate coursework program.

The University of Newcastle’s Graduate Certificate in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education prepares graduates for a diverse range of roles. It will position you as an expert in special needs, whether that focus is on face-to-face education and support, curriculum development, or working with those with additional emotional and behavioural needs.
For those with a teaching qualification, you will be proficiently equipped with skills and knowledge to assess student needs and abilities and to address identified learning difficulties or challenge-specific areas. Your learning journey will empower you to apply research-based strategies to your curriculum or professional context.
For graduates with a prior degree in an allied health related field – you can be part of a brighter future in community or support services.
Upon completion of the program, qualified teachers will have the opportunity to embark on career pathways in special or inclusive education settings or early childhood intervention services. Career pathways for those with an allied health degree include special care worker, developmental support worker, community/disability support worker, or therapeutic support staff.
Upon completion of the program, qualified teachers will have advanced skills if wishing to embark on career pathways in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education settings.
Please note the program does not provide a pre-service teaching qualification.
